| The nasty bug coming probably out of space is capable of withstanding an instantaneous dose of up to 5,000 Gy of ionizing radiation comparing to 10 Gy that can kill a human. "Several bacteria of comparable radioresistance are now known, including some species of the genus Chroococcidiopsis (phylum ) and some species of Rubrobacter (phylum ); among the archae, the species gammatolerans shows comparable radioresistance." Deinococcus accomplishes its resistance to radiation by having multiple copies of its genome and rapid DNA repair mechanisms. I just wonder where this abilities where exercised because on earth you cannot find this kind of radiation level easily (not to mention is only artificial produced)? And funny thing is bacteria is wide spread (you probably have it in your home, relax is harmless If the evolution theory is to be believed from what / where this bacteria evolve this ability? From Earth sure not. Some suggest this is a byproduct of other characteristics of this bacteria (drought resistance) but I doubt random hazard bring this level of resistance to radiation. Did I mention it can survive cold, dehydration, vacuum, and acid?! Ups |

| You make me think there is always a possibility that aliens are very very different from anything we can imagine. For instance, they can "look like" worms or bacterias and still be more intelligent than us. Maybe even some other creatures on this planet (dolphins, for instance) are more intelligent than us, but we just don't want to admit it |
