The unusual and beautiful alien movies

The 0 violent movies with aliens that open our mind to other perception on aliens (than Star Wars or Alien has made on us).

K-pax (must see) if they would come in an unusual form would we believe or understand them?

Contact (must see) they send message to us and we still doubt them (or don't get it)

But seriously both mentioned by you movies are really really good... but I do not recall any other film of this kind (well only title that comes to my mind is "Mission to Mars", but it is not exactly the same). Usually sci-fi film with aliens = war.

BTW "Solaris", based on S.Lem's novel, is non violence, but there is question if the lady, whom main character see was an alien or it only his imagination. Anyway I recommend to read a book and see Russian not hollywood movie (maybe is "regional patriotism", but american movie is so shallow in my opinion).

Stardust what can you tell about K-Pax book series, I'm wondering if they will made sequesl based on them - are they worh of that? (sorry for this little off top)

I have read somewhere that Star Wars is the Sci Fi movie that made the worst impact ever in Sci Fi because he put the war label on sci fi movies and as you have notivced there is almost an = between war and scifi.

I am adding to the list Stalker (1979) again a master piece. You need to see it at least 2 if not 3 times to understand more of it.
Just read that 1 year of filming was ruined when they realized the film could not be developed (or maybe it was too radical to put on screen and autorities gave him a chance to redo it). It would have been very interesting to see how was the first version.

Mentioned by me "Solaris" (1972) also has screenpaly written by Andrei Tarkovsky.
And of course I wouldn't be myself if not recommend also read Roadside Picnic
