Question Savant syndrom - (d)evolution of brain?

was inspired by today’s information about death of Kim Peek, the real existing “Rain man” hero who’s life inspired the producers of the movie. He was called ‘a life google’ as he knew 12 000 (thousand!) books by memory, and he could name all streets and cities of US, giving postal codes and addresses.

Actually i start wonder WHAT is real state of our mind; as all saviants are reported with brain disabilities:
  • One in ten autistic persons has savant skills.
  • 50% of savants are autistic; the other 50% often have different disabilities, mental retardation, brain injuries, or brain diseases.
  • Male savants outnumber female savants by about six times.

And how come that to be recognized as a genius or with unusual abilities you are in 99% of cases perceived by rest of human kind as not fitting to the rest of society. It means actually sad statement going “beyond” ususal ability will be always connected with being excluded from the group.

And imagine, if the only way to get unusual (for current state of human) abilities, is to damage somehow the brain so it will start working differently, what “damage” is needed to take to really make its full potential.

From that pov outside influencing (like pple being abducted by aliens, or reporting strange things happened to them) would indeed have a reason to be needed J

And imagine what potential we have if above abbreviation refers to very narrow ability from mnemonic pov, what if we would be able to twist the brain also to all other potential (sensual senses inlc)

And how hard will be to differentiate what is the next level of capacity of the brain vs. just mess up J Any ideas how to differentiate those two states ?

Maybe we are all retarded and savant and autistic persons are normal
Maybe we are all ill, or think wrongly. Looking at the world now you might think is a possibility.
